Figures and Abstracts
Gesture and posture are what interests me about the human body. Though figurative work is what I gravitate toward, I’ve found that abstraction can convey emotion and personality through the swoop of a body plane or the hollow of a negative form. I will often start with a realistic figure and then blur and blunt its specificity to create a less literal, more impressionistic form.
“Abstraction can convey emotion and personality even more powerfully than figuration.”
